The 2015 fall conference-
The conference theme - Skeet made a motion that the theme of our conference be “Sharing the Wealth in TSE.” The motion was seconded by Gerry and it passed.
Fall Conference evaluations for 2014 - The evaluations were excellent. We reviewed the evaluations and decided to keep the same format as in the fall of 2014.
The site for this year’s conference will be at the Bellevue Red Lion on the second weekend of October.
Projected conference budget- Yusuf mentioned that Skeet and Gerry should be given the discretion on what they spend the money on for the fall conference as long as they stay within budget. Skeet gave a low and high estimate on how much Revenue we would make on the conference depending on such factors as our attendance and sponsorship's.
Possible Speakers/topics for the conference. It was mentioned that there should be several workshops on the topic of “sharing the wealth in the classroom and behind-the-wheel. Plus, the topic of insurance was a high priority. David Slipp volunteered to do this workshop. Plus, there should be a workshop for those that work with special needs students. ADED would be a good source for a speaker on this topic
Ordering/selling shirts. Hats, etc. for the conference-We should include order forms on the registration forms which would include the sizes of the various items. Part of the cost would be picked up by the members and part through our fall conference budget. Gerry mentioned that he would go to several places in Shelton to get estimates on the cost of t-shirts and hats.
Name tags- We should include the workshop choices and the schools and businesses on these name tags.
Glen Gordon OSPI talked about the public school audit and TSE programs. At this time, OSPI does not have any manpower available to do an onsite audit or evaluations of the programs. The school districts are responsible to see that the programs are run according to the RCWs. Public schools have not been audited after John Harvey’s departure to Oregon in 2001. A discussion about teacher certification and clock hours also took place.
It was suggested that WTSEA send a letter to all TSE programs in public school informing the, of their responsibilities of the programs and teacher certification. This letter would serve as a guideline to those administrators who are not familiar with TSE rules - this was approved by all the board members. A letter will soon go out and will also be posted on our website for future reference.
The board discussed the following association goals for the year:
Work with the legislators, OSPI, CWU, WEA, and WTSEA membership to bring the funding back to public schools – for example introducing legislation.
Update the WTSEA curriculum
Find a way for the public school TSE programs to be evaluated by the OSPI.
CWU to offer more TSE teacher certification programs around the state so that program needs can be met in the public schools.
Motion to adjourn the meeting by Skeet Gaul, second by Garry Swartz Call to adjournment by Yusuf Quidwai at 1:30pm. The next Board Meeting is April 25th, beginning at 9:00am at CWU, Ellensburg.
